Norse Gods

I picked Norse Gods due to having an interest in all gods of different places. There are many different gods and it should be interesting investigating some of them . Norse gods have great stories behind them as well. Some of the gods i will be reviewing are Odin, Thor, Freyr, Tyr,and Loki .

Thor the god of thunder, is believed to be the strongest of all the Norse dieties. He is said to have killed millions and the other name he is known by is Donar. When both name are combined it could be transliterated into thunder. All these years since his discovery, he is still making people jump at his arrival.
His influence on modern culture can be seen in television, video games, film and literature. If anything, he has gained stature through the years.

"thinkquest"Thor- “The God of Thunder” Thor, the ruler of the weather, killed many giants with his almighty hammer, called Mjolnir. He always kept the hammer at his side. When he threw it at his enemies, it always came back to him with a boomerang type effect. When Thor was hungry, but didn’t have any food, he would eat his goats, and if he saved the skin and bones and put his hammer over them, the goats would come back alive. He also always wore a belt of strength. Thor was a Leo.

"thinkquest"Odin – “The Almighty God”
Odin had two ravens that flew around every night and found out all the new things that happened. Then they would fly back to Odin and tell him everything that had happened and this is why Odin was the God who knew everything.

The description of Odin is much like the God of Christianity with his omnipresence and watchful eyes, not much goes by un-noticed. Odin appears in television series like Xena and J.R. Tolkiens Lord of the rings has an all knowing presence.

"thinkquest" -Freya- “the Goddess of Fertility”
Freya was the Goddess of sex, fertility, war, and wealth. This very beautiful goddess lived in Folkvang, which means “Field of the Folk”. Her husband was named Od, and she had a daughter named Hnoss. The day Friday is named after Freya. Freya was a Gemini.

Freya the first Goddess to be studied shows up once a week in our culture. She was very busy with all of those departments to supervise. Like the other Norse legends she has been included in plays, books and art since the beginning of printing and the Scandinavian nations shared their folklore with the rest of  Europe.

"thinkquest"Tyr- “The God of War”
Tyr, a very brave warrior, Brave enough to put his right hand into the mouth of Fenriswolf so it could be joined by the gods. His right hand was bit off by the wolf. The offering of his right hand, was to show that Tyr was “free of weapons”. Tuesday is named after Tyr.
My only question is "why?"  If Freya was the goddess of war maybe she could have stopped him.

"thinkquest"Loki - "The God of Mischief"
Loki was the trickster of Norse Mythology. He was able to change shape and even gender. He was often depicted as the villan but would sometimes help the gods.

Most recently in the film "the Mask" the object causing all the trouble was reported to belong to Loki. It had the power to transform the wearer into a superhero or super villan based on their personality.
